"CAMAC (Centre d’Arts de Marnay Arts Centre) was an idyllic arts centre in the tiny village of Marnay-sur-Seine at the heart of France’s Champagne region. Housed in a beautifully refurbished medieval mansion that overlooked the river Seine, CAMAC offered serene residencies to artists worldwide to engage in creative activities. Intriguingly, the building was once owned by Daniel Filipacchi, a prominent figure in French music publishing, who, along with his partner Frank Tenot, played a pivotal role in shaping France’s youth pop and jazz culture in the 60s and 70s. In the early 2000s, Alex invited me and choreographer Jane Turner to CAMAC for a residency to develop our art/science project based on the the theory of Emergence and Fractals.

I fell in love with the place and returned several times, meeting and occasionally collaborating with other artists in residence. Eventually, Alex offered me to serve as CAMAC’s president, a role I held until the centre was forced to close due to petty local politics and villagers’ disputes following Frank Tenot’s death. One of my projects at CAMAC was a series of Fender Rhodes piano improvisations performed in the main gallery. Three concerts in a single day. These recordings were deeply influenced by the enchanting pastoral surroundings and the vibrant creative energy of CAMAC. CAMAC 1, 2 & 3 are presented here in their entirety."
